Reaching out for discussion on how Colleges are handling the new requirement with Ontario Fire Code for periodic Intergrated Systems Testing for facilities and life safety system.
This likely will be a 5 year frequency based on what I have read. It is not allowed to be the fire alarm verification contractor. Typically an engineering company would do the work from the sounds of it.
This could be a costly impact. Who are you getting to be the Independent Testing Coordinator within your organization?
Does anyone have a scope of work developed or a plan on how they are approaching?

Hi Robin,
With our recent LEAF project, the gym addition was large enough that are required to do the S-10001/ integrated testing. The GC is working with his trades to obtain all the information. The Architects and Engineers are completing their end. Thankfully the majority of the legwork is being handles by others. Our Architects have provided us with what they require from us, most of which is fairly easy. We were requested by the City’s building to perform the same audit on other projects but they were too small in nature and did not meet the threshold.
As for all the ongoing requirements, I’m with you, still digging into it to see we need to do and interested in other College’s response.

Hi Robin,
In addition to Chris’ post, our experience with the S1001 test has been limited to renovation projects. It was also an occupancy requirement for our renovated Port Hope campus, where it was the GC’s responsibility, and the GC engaged Goodkey Weedmark & Associates Ltd. as the third‑party independent consultant.
I would presume other engineering design firms may also provide this service.
